Why Most Local SEO Work Never Moves the Map Pack

For a local search, the map pack shows only a few businesses above the regular results, and on a phone that is most of what people see before they call. If you are not in it, most searchers never reach you.

The most common reason a Florida service business doesn't rank: one page covering fifteen cities. Google has no reason to rank "we serve all of South Florida" for "roof repair Coral Springs" when a competitor has a real page about Coral Springs with local photos, local reviews and a local phone number.

The second reason is proximity plus profile quality. Map pack ranking is heavily influenced by distance from the searcher, review velocity and category accuracy — three things that are directly manageable and three things almost nobody manages. A profile with 11 reviews from 2023 and the wrong primary category will lose to a competitor collecting four reviews a week.

The third is technical debt: a site that takes six seconds to load on 4G, no service schema, duplicated NAP data across directories, and thin pages that read like a brochure. Fixing those is unglamorous and it's most of the work.

    What Local SEO Includes

    Technical and speed foundation

Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering, crawlability, indexation and internal linking fixed before anything else. There's no point publishing content on a site Google struggles to load on a phone in a driveway.

    City pages that aren't templates

A real page per city you serve, with local landmarks, local jobs, local reviews and local response times. We write them; you don't get a spun paragraph with the city name find-and-replaced fifteen times.

Service pages built on search intent

One page per service, mapped to how people actually search for it — not how you name it internally. Each page targets a primary keyword cluster and links into the relevant city pages.

    Google Business Profile management

Category selection, service list, service area, photos, Q&A, and weekly posts. Profile quality is a direct map pack ranking factor and it degrades quietly when nobody touches it.

    Review generation system

Automated review requests by SMS and email after job completion, plus response templates. Review velocity matters more than lifetime count — steady weekly reviews beat a batch of forty from two years ago.

    Local citations and schema

Consistent NAP across the directories that matter in Florida, plus LocalBusiness and Service structured data so search engines can parse your service area and offerings without guessing.

Rank and call reporting by city

Grid-based rank tracking so you see where you actually rank at street level, tied to organic calls and form fills. City-level reporting is the only way to know which markets to expand into next.

SEO works best alongside Google Ads management. See it applied for roofing contractors and cleaning companies.

    How It Works

    1. Step 1

      Audit and keyword map

We crawl the site, audit the Google Business Profile and build a keyword map: which page targets which term in which city. You see the full plan before we write a word.

    2. Step 2

      Fix the foundation

Month one is technical: speed, indexation, schema, internal links, NAP consistency and profile cleanup. This is what makes everything published afterwards actually rank.

    3. Step 3

      Publish and expand

Service pages first, then city pages in priority order based on population, competition and your drive-time economics. Two to four new pages a month, all written for humans.

    4. Step 4

      Compound

Reviews accumulate, pages age, internal links deepen and rankings climb. Monthly reporting shows grid rankings and organic calls per city so you can see the compounding, not just take our word for it.
